Our speaker Dayna Debenedet came to us as chief librarian of the Dryden Public Library (DPL) from New Brunswick, however, she grew up in Fort Frances so is happy to be closer to family and friends.

Dayna gave us her vision of the role of a library in a community. It is not only a repository of physical books, but also a link to downloading e-books, internet work stations to access the internet, and maybe one that is often overlooked, also a meeting place for people. A number of community organizations use the library from a knitting group to networking get together with a group from the Chamber of Commerce.

This past year, the library had over 2100 card holders, circulated 66,267 items, borrowed 823 items through the interlibrary loan program, and lent 952 titles to other libraries in Ontario.  Last year, the library also held 86 programs involving 1309 participants and had an average of 154 persons using the public computers each week.

The library has over 40,000 books, magazines, audio books and DVDs. Dryden  Public Library also had members download 5191 e-books.
