After getting her teacher’s certification, she started teaching in Brampton and it was here that she met John....and they were married in 1965.She is the proud mother of 3 children and two grandchildren.

After a period away from the classroom and staying home with her children, she went back to teaching part time as well as earning her degree. After moving to Thunder Bay, she became involved in Special Education and worked in that field until her retirement in 1998.

Volunteering with the Dryden Literacy Association, Retired Teachers Association, and Communities in Bloom has kept her busy since...and now she also has Rotary where she is spearheading a Literacy project for the club.

John was born in Winnipeg to a single mother and adopted out at 9 months to the Borst family in Brampton.

A few years later in Gr. 12, while still working for his father, he sought a raise that was refused so John took a job for a few days to work on the building of the first Catholic School in Brampton.

Since he had not finish school John went back to working for his dad. For the next year John tried going to school and working half days but neither school nor work were successful.

Somewhat at a loss, he was invited to coach little league and decided that teaching was more his calling, rather than the greenhouse business, much to his father’s chagrin.

His career path took him from Brampton to North York, to Thunder Bay, to Red Lake as principal for a year, back to York Region, and finally to the Dryden Board as Director of Education from 1993 - 1996. Along the way, John continued his learning and obtained a number of degrees and diplomas. His interests since retiring have included his recent stint as Trustee on the Catholic School Board, and working with Communities in Bloom and the RTO.
