Dryden’s newest Rotary exchange student is Xabier Lizarraga Zubeldia, and his friends call him Xabi (sabbi).  Xabi hails from Pamplona, Community of Navarra, located in northern Spain.

Xabi 125pxAt home are his parents and an older sister who went on an exchange to Australia with Rotary.  He enjoys outdoor handball, formula one racing, electro-music and is a big fan of soccer. Barcelona is his team. Pamplona is famous for the “running of the bulls”. This tradition had its origins in the fourteenth century when bulls from off-site corrals were herded to the market.  Young adults would race in front of them to show off their bravado.  Xabi said anyone could run with the bulls as long as you are at least eighteen and sober.   Xabi

Currently, Xabi is staying with the Brent Wood family on Ghost Lake Road. Brent’s son also happens to be a Rotary exchange in Brazil. To date he’s toured a water bomber and experienced our northern Ontario’s wilderness since he arrived this past August and is always looking for new Canadian experiences.  On behalf of Dryden Rotary, Ed Iskra thanked Xabi for his presentation.
