Memorial Paul Harris Given in Memory of Rotarian Willie Cheslock

Each Year the Dryden Rotary Club   celebrates the founding of Rotary International by remembering its founder Paul Harris. This year the 111th Anniversary of Rotary was no exception as a formal dinner was held at The Centre. The highlight of the evening was the awarding of 7 Paul Harris Fellowships.

Three fellowships were awarded to Rotarians Anna Triani, Elaine Thompson and Jack McMaster. Rotarians earn Paul Harris awards when they have contributed $1000.00 USD to The Rotary Foundation. A fourth Dryden Rotarian, Carl Eisener, earned a Paul Harris pin for his contribution, however, he was on holiday and was not able to attend to receive it.

Each year club members nominate Dryden citizens who have voluntarily gone the extra mile to make Dryden a better place to live. Rotary lives by two motto’s “Service Above Self” and “Do Good in the World” the motto of The Rotary Foundation. Rotarians believe each year’s recipients demonstrate both these characteristics and are deserving of a Paul Harris Fellowship in honour of their sacrifice for the common good. This year’s honours went to: Dr. Karen Mazurski for her dedication to patients and the betterment of health in Dryden; Wendy Wiedenhoft for her leadership in our schools, the Lions’ Club, the CNIB and as chair of the Dryden Entertainment; and finally Bill Salonen for his leadership as an educator, local politician and his many endeavours in the field of athletics.

Finally during this pass year Dryden Rotary lost the services of Wilmer ‘Willy’ Cheslock. In his memory a Paul Harris Fellow was awarded to his wife Freda.
